Supplemental Accident Insurance Guides

Understand how payout schedules work for accidental injuries. Compare supplemental policies that offset high out-of-pocket health insurance deductibles.

How Supplemental Accident Insurance Works

Accident insurance is a form of supplemental coverage. Unlike primary health insurance which pays medical providers directly, accident policies pay cash benefits directly to you if you suffer a covered accidental injury (such as a concussion, fracture, or laceration).

Payout Structures

Benefits are paid based on a fixed schedule of payouts, regardless of your actual medical bills. For example, a policy might specify:

  • Emergency room visit: $150 payout
  • Broken collarbone: $1,000 payout
  • Hospital confinement: $250 per day payout

You can spend the payout cash on any expenses you choose, including deductible costs, utility bills, or child care during recovery.
